BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 X-WR-CALNAME:EventsCalendar BEGIN:VEVENT CATEGORIES:Workshops DESCRIPTION:Rigorous academic research rarely holds one simple message; it tends to be nuanced, information-rich and complex. These essential features of research make it invaluable and also hard to communicate to audiences outside of academia – or at times even specific disciplines or sub-fields. How do we engage – and hold – interest of such audiences? How do we focus on the central message of a study, while conveying nuance and complexity? How do we connect research to practical challenges and solutions to societal problems? Addressing these questions is the aim of this half-day training session that is co-designed and supported by the Environment and Sustainability Institute, HASS Cornwall, Policy@Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ, Public Engagement with Research (PER) and the University of Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Press Office. This training is based on using real-life, interdisciplinary academic outputs and translating them into: (1) a policy brief, (2) a blog post, and (3) a press release. They speak to policy makers and political practitioners, the media, and general public. This opportunity is suitable for research active academics, postdocs and PhD students. Following this exercise, we will share ‘cheatsheets’ with the participants summarising core lessons and advice to inform their future work and communications. Please note lunch is included in this session. Limited spaces.
